Lunchtime Workshop: “Tips for a Better Resume” and “Start-up life as a career choice”

Speakers: Maureen McCann, professional resume writer and Ian Graham, founder of TheCodeFactory.

Speaker Biographies:

For the past three years, Maureen McCann has worked with international professionals, introducing them to the Canadian work environment. Maureen has been delivering one-on-one career counselling, resume writing and interview coaching to a diverse clientele for years.

Maureen was recently honoured in Toronto with the Outstanding New Canadian Career Professional award in May at the 2007 Career Professionals of Canada Awards of Excellence – an award voted on by career professionals, for career professionals.

Ian Graham is founder of TheCodeFactory, aCertified Management Consultant and principle at  Klondike Marketing and consulting working with early stage knowledge based businesses. He has over 15 years in R&D, Project Management and Product Management prior to founding TheCodeFactory in May 2008.

Ian has worked as a Product Manager defining product releases and marketing strategy, Project Manager leading a team of over 100 rolling out a major product release, New Product Introduction specialist providing technical support and training for customers on alpha and beta releases and in a variety of R&D positions. He earned his CMC (Certified Management Consultant) designation from the Canadian Association of Management Consultants, has an MBA from the University of Ottawa earned while continuing to work full time and has a technical diploma from Algonquin College.

Ian is very active in the local technology community; Board of Directors of FOSSLC, Chair of the CMC Technology Committee and former chief instigator of the democamp event series, Member of the eBusiness Cluster Executive, Member of the Ottawa Software Cluster Executive and The Ottawa Network Board of Directors.


2. Ottawa WISE is hosting an exciting event  on volunteering your skills and building capacity abroad.

Though Jill Lauren Hass currently volunteers as the WISE Communications Executive and newsletter Editor, her full-time occupation is as an engineer employed in the private sector within the water and wastewater industry. Previously, she paid her dues working and volunteering in Central and South American countries for grassroots, international non-government organizations by working with local communities to secure good water and sanitation for themselves.  Jill will present a two part seminar for WISE members interested in volunteering their high skill set abroad.  First she will share her most recent experience in Africa and secondly she will also provide attendees with options for volunteering abroad on a long-term project or short-term emergency deployment.  If you have ever found yourself wondering what it would be like to volunteer on an overseas project but weren¹t sure how to become involved or what it entailed, this seminar will provide you with valuable information.
